BRONZE

Bronze

Bronze is primarily an alloy of copper and tin. But often other elements can be added to create different properties. Bronze is a very hard material that is well suited for harsh environments.

General applications of bronze are:

  • Bearings,
  • Gears, clips,
  • Electrical connections,
  • Springs,
  • Statues, medals and musical instruments

There are two main types of bronze – phosphor bronze and aluminum bronze. The introduction of phosphorus creates a very hard, wear resistant material suitable for mechanical applications. Aluminum bronze has a high level of corrosion resistance and impact strength, making it a common choice in the marine, chemical and general engineering industries. The low friction surface of bronze makes it suitable for electrical components as well.
