ALLOY STEELS
Tool steels are a family of carbon alloy steels with different properties such as hardness, wear resistance, toughness and resistance to softening at high temperatures. Tool steels contain carbide forming elements such as chromium, vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten in different combinations. They also contain cobalt or nickel, which improves their high temperature performance. They are usually heat-treated to increase hardness and are used for pressing, forming, cutting metals, as well as for shaping plastics. They are divided into various categories according to their composition and properties.
